Cyclothymic disorder is a personality disorder characterized by multiple hypomanic episodes and is also known as Cyclothymia.
It is a long-lasting but milder condition that isn’t as severe as Bipolar disorder yet its symptoms last for a long time.
It is said that the symptoms of this disorder seem to go away and then come back again.
The people suffering from Cyclothymic disorder keep cycling between the hypomanic and depressive episodes. Cyclothymic disorder is said to be inherited and is more common in women.
Cyclothymic disorder is a form of bipolar disorder. People with cyclothymia will have periods of hypomania followed by depression.
They also have periods where they have symptoms of both. Unlike bipolar disorder, cyclothymia is not recognized as a disorder by the DSM-IV. The symptoms can be difficult to treat, and people with this disorder may self-medicate with drugs or alcohol.
